Bringing International Humanitarian Law to Life

Clara Barton
International Humanitarian Law Competition

10th Annual Competition: March 17-19, 2023

Application due date is November 18, 2022 at 11:59 PM (Eastern US Time)

Important Application Note: There is a minor error on Page 13 of the Application PDF ("Scenario Background"). The tripartite agreement mentioned in that document is the same tripartite agreement described on Page 19 (the "WEFLO Treaty"). Page 13 erroneously lists the treaty parties as Westphalia, Coastlandia, and Lockivo. As described on Page 19, the actual parties to the treaty are Westphalia, Floraland, and Lockivo ("WEFLO"). We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

The official word count limit for Prompt 2 is 2,500 words. Please excuse the formatting error in the mobile version of the application materials and any confusion caused by it.

After submitting your CBC Application you will receive an invoice from clarabartonihl@redcross.org requesting you pay your application fee via Square using a debit or credit card. If you are paying the application fee by check please inform Carolina Celnik at clarabartonihl@redcross.org after submitting your application.

Participating in the Clara Barton was an amazing experience.  They really mean it when they say to take the law out of the books.  I’ve discussed these issues in my classes, but it was a completely different (and incredibly valuable) experience to present, debate, and discuss these issues in real-world settings.  I learned so much – not just from my own preparation, but from the other teams, judges, coaches, and speakers.  If you’re considering participating in the Clara Barton – do it!
